The mark entered into A under the stave almost certainly concerns the A minim; as such, it is a long accent, which we provide in the main text. In the editions it was reproduced as a hairpin, adjusting its range to the R.H. chords – in GE from the 2nd to the 4th chord. This version was reproduced by the remaining editions (except EE1, in which the mark was overlooked), FE being the least accurate. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE revisions , Inaccuracies in GE , Errors in EE , FE revisions |

The willingness to avoid the elision of the final vowel of the 'molto' adjective made the revisers of FE and EE commit a mistake – the correct form is 'molta': con molta espressione. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , Errors in EE , FE revisions |

In EE the Sonata was edited by Brinley Richards; among others, he developed the fingering. We do not include his fingering version in the main text, as it is obviously inauthentic, while in the EE transcriptions we reproduce it using a smaller font in italics, reserved for fingering digits added by editors. In some places, e.g. in , the fingering was complemented or changed in EE2. On each page of the transcription, the notes concerning this fingering version can be found by selecting the "Fingering" tab from the "Notation" list. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions |

According to us, the absence of slurs is rather Chopin's inadvertence than an interpretative nuance. Therefore, in the main text we add slurs modelled after bar 1. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

The changes concerning the range of the dynamic hairpins introduced by GE (→FE,EE,IE) are arbitrary and rather unfounded if we take into account the natural phrasing, considering the direction of the melody and harmonic tensions. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Scope of dynamic hairpins , GE revisions |
